stevenmckennaSteven McKenna arrived into this world in 1968 (yes, I'm old)... he was born in Dublin and lived there for many years, he then moved to Bray, Co. Wicklow where he lived for several years, after which he moved to Maynooth, Co. Kildare where he lived for several more years and finally to Clonmellon Co. Westmeath in 2002, where he has firmly planted his roots.  He has always had a love of radio, not listening to it but how it works and at a young age he developed an interest in being behind the microphone.  His childhood wish came through during his time in Wicklow when he was involved with a community radio station for a short period of time.  Steven was also active on the old CB radio from the tender age of 12, a hobby he still enjoys.  He also sat and passed his Radio experimenters (HAM radio) exam in 2006 and has held the callsign EI4GKB since.

Later on he teamed up with Alan james and together they launched Open Your Mind radio (OYM) as an internet based station.  OYM ran for 9 years afterwhich both men decided to take a sabbatical and pursue other projects with a view to going back to OYM in the future.  Steven and his wife Barbara-Ann joined Peoples Internet radio (PIR)  in late 2018 where they host a 2 hour chat show every Thursday evening..

Steven decided to expand his love of radio and was instrumental in setting up Clonmellon Community radio.  A station dedicated to serving to community.  The station launched online in September 2019 and is building up a database of podcast interviews with other local community groups and organisations.  He did look into the possibility of launching an FM radio community station but this is a mammoth task with a lot of red tape.  Who knows what the future may bring though... we live in hope.
